The American actor Chadwick Boseman, leading actor in the hit superhero film “Black Panther”, died at the age of 43. In a post on Boseman’s social media channels on Saturday night, it said on behalf of the family that he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016, against which he had fought for four years.

“It was the great honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther,” said the message. “He died at home with his wife and family by his side.” The Boseman speaking team confirmed the actor’s death for the film magazine “Variety”.

Four times “Black Panther”

Boseman became known worldwide as the Marvel superhero “Black Panther”, whom he played in four extremely successful films between 2016 and 2019. He had the leading role in the “Black Panther” of the same name, which was released in theaters in February 2018 and sold more than a billion dollars in box offices worldwide. It was the first superhero film with almost exclusively black actors in front of and behind the camera.

He did not talk about his illness in public, instead he continued his work on major film projects in Hollywood. As a “true fighter,” Boseman went through everything and continued filming during and between his numerous surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, his family said.

Born in South Carolina in 1976, the actor had his breakthrough in 2013 with the lead role in the film “42 – The True Story of a Sports Legend”. In it Boseman plays baseball icon Jackie Robinson, the first African American in the MLB professional league. In “Get on Up” a year later he played the “Godfather of Soul”, singer James Brown (1933-2006).

The most recent release was “Da 5 Bloods” by director Spike Lee about four veterans returning to Vietnam. In flashbacks, Boseman embodies their leader, whose grave they are looking for.

A sequel to “Black Panther” was planned for 2022 ”.
