Court orders interim forfeiture of N827m to Fed Govt

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday requested the interval relinquishment of N827 Million recouped from an agent, Matthew Edevbie, to the Federal Government.

Equity Chukwujeku Aneke made the request following an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He coordinated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publicize the request in any national every day for any invested individual to show up under the steady gaze of the court inside 14 days and show cause why the cash ought not be forever relinquished to the administration.

The adjudicator suspended further procedures till June 29.

The EFCC through its insight, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo had told the adjudicator that Edevbie claimed a firm, Flank Power Ltd.

He said the relinquished entirety, including N616,679,098.32 and N211,000,000.00 was kept in Flank Power Ltd’s financial balance between February 11 and 19.

The entirety is “sensibly associated to be continues with unlawful movement according to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud related offenses Act, 2006 and Section 44(2)b of the 1999 Constitution,” Oyedepo said.

He convinced the adjudicator that if the application “was not heard and decided quickly the monies housed in the said financial balance looked to be incidentally relinquished will be disseminated.”

The legal advisor offered an oath of criticalness on the side of the movement ex parte. It was pledged to by an EFCC Investigating Officer, Mr Chidi Nweke.

In it, Nweke distinguished himself as one “of the agents of the EFCC doled out to research the insight report got” against Edevbie.

He stated: “The said knowledge was examined, followed to and recouped from Edevbie who is the proprietor of Flank Power Resources.
